About
Following the success of my 2007 adventure London to Nepal, which took me over 20,000 miles, through 22 countries and lasted 178 days I am once again heading off into the never never to explore the North African countries which border the Mediterranean.
Starting once again from my home city of London, I shall be taking a ferry to Santander in Spain, crossing into Portugal to visit a country rarely known outside its southern seaside resorts, before crossing back into Spain to visit Seville, and Cadiz.
My trip will begin in earnest when I cross the Straits of Gibraltar and enter the Kingdom of Morocco. Travelling through the Atlas Mountains I hope to reach Algeria. However at the time of publishing the border between Algeria and Morocco is currently closed. On ringing the Algeria Consulate in London I was told Insha’Allah it will be open when you need to cross. When I asked what I should do if it wasn’t open, he suggested I sneak across…. It’s all part of the adventure!
Algeria will lead into Tunisia, and then Libya. I have been told by the Libyan Consulate in London that I will be able to get a personal visa to enter and travel through Libya without a problem. Only time will tell.
Libya will lead into Egypt where I hope to follow the Nile south to Aswan, then cross the Red Sea into Jordan. The Kings Highway will take me up through Jordan to Israel, Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey.
The journey home from Asia will be through Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, Albania and Montenegro where I hope to take a ferry to Italy. From there it should be a short hop into France before reaching England and home in time for Christmas 2010.
Will I make it? You’ll just have to follow the blog and see!
